Based in Mexico, Masiosare Studio aim for functional and accessible design. Flaca, which is Spanish for skinny, is a lamp they designed that meets both of those goals. It is an extremely lightweight lamp made from a single piece of laser-cut stainless steel, which means very little waste. The piece is easy to assemble in just five steps and requires no tools other than your bare hands. The LED light sticks permanently to the lamp with tape and requires only 6 watts, which is 10% of today’s regular bulbs. The lamp is adjustable in height and ships flat packed in 100% recyclable cardboard. Clever.

The Museum of London phone app named Streetmuseum is pretty sensational. Users can hold their iPhone or Android camera to hundreds of London streets, sights and landmarks and receive detailed images on what they’re looking at in decades gone by. Want to see what Carnaby Street looked like at the height of its fame? Streetmuseum can show you. Interested in the grimy wharfs of Victorian London? Hold up Streetmuseum and the plush media offices decay into aged filth.

Im off to London to give it a try.

See The Museum of London for more info.

All the design blogs are hot for this Little Printer by BERG. I’m not surprised, its pretty special.

Little Printer is a tiny, compact printer that connects wireless to your smart-phone so you can publish customized mini-newsletters. Better yet, while its aggregating all of the data you want, the Little Printer uses its design algorithms to lay out all the information in clean, crisp black and white. You can customise to-do lists, puzzles, reminders, headlines and more. Take a look.

From the website:

“Use Remote on your iPhone or Android smartphone to add and manage new publications. Right on time Little Printer gathers everything it needs to prepare a neat little personalised package, printed as soon as you press the button. You can get deliveries multiple times a day, but we find once or twice works best–like your very own morning or evening newspaper.

Graphic design is at the heart of everything Little Printer delivers, making the most of connectivity and print combined. Rendered in crisp black and white these tactile publications take visual cues from traditional halftone lithography and modern pixel art, whether they’re the latest international news or this week’s gossip from friends.”

Vadim Kibardin black and white clocks epitmizes minimalism, stripping the object to its bare essentials.

“Digital clock: only figures, no case, only the necessary – only accurate time. Each figure has self-contained power supply and independent control, it can be fixed to any surface autonomously. A light sensor will switch the clock to an invert mode: the figures are white in the dark time of day and black at daytime.”
